Announcement for the Tri-Nebraska Triathlon

Please read this important announcement from the race director:

“We at the Tri-Nebraska Triathlon sponsored by NebraskaLand Bank are very excited about the changes that are happening to our North Platte Rec Center and the opportunities that the updated facility will provide for our community for many years to come.

We have been incredibly fortunate to have been able to host a triathlon in North Platte for the past 23 years and thank you for your continued support for triathlon in North Platte. Pulling off a multi-day, multisport event requires many pieces to come together to pull off a successful event experience for our athletes. It requires a collaboration of our local government, law enforcement, volunteers, sponsors, facilities, and of course our athletes. We have prided ourselves on having an athlete first focus, prioritizing both the athlete experience and safety.

With the construction that is currently ongoing at the Rec Center and the current limitations on the facility, we don’t feel that we will be able to provide the necessary level of safety and the expected level of athlete experience that we pride ourselves on.

After much consideration, thought, and exploration of many alternative options, we want to inform you that our 2025 Tri Nebraska Adult Triathlon will be virtual only. I know many of our athletes have already started training and we encourage you to continue to do so as there will still be finisher points awarded for PRFS finisher purposes.

For our 2025 kids race we plan to host a Swim/Run event during the evening of April 25, 2025, removing the bike portion for this year due to safety concerns. More details will be forthcoming.

Our hope and plan is to return to in person racing for our 25th year in 2026.

Registrations for 2025 will open soon on the Platte River Fitness Series website.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support of the Tri-Nebraska Triathlon, the Platte River Fitness Series, and the North Platte fitness community.”

Athletes are resilient and good at delayed gratification. We made it through the pandemic with a virtual triathlon, and this time, we will have a gorgeous new pool and new facility waiting for us! Please know that this was a very deliberate and well-thought out decision, taking all parties involved in the triathlon into consideration. The triathlon is THE signature event of the PRFS, it is its stem cell, the event from which all the others grew and our community was formed, so we are also disappointed not to be able to watch you compete. The website will be updated very soon and registration will begin soon after. All virtual athletes will receive a race shirt and a special finisher’s medal. The details about how you will submit proof of your completion of the virtual triathlon will soon be on our website. PRFS athletes are some of the most selfless, generous athletes anywhere. Thank you for your understanding in advance, and thank you for supporting our wonderful Tri-Nebraska race organizers.
