Welcome to our fitness family!
We’re glad you are here! The Platte River Fitness Series is a long-standing community initiative and innovative public health program, focused on whole human health, grounded in collaboration, connection and belonging.
We use a series of races to bring people together, and offer participation incentives designed to light a little fire of inspiration and motivation in our athletes. Whether you love to compete or lean more toward joyful participation, there is a place for everyone at our starting line. Our 19 events support a variety of causes, and our causes support every participant by creating events that are welcoming and celebratory.
OUR WHY: “To bring people and causes together in a collaborative effort so that individuals can achieve whole human health in a flourishing community.”
Our Four Foundations: Whole Human Health
#1 — Everyone is an athlete, deserving of an opportunity to discover what that means for them.
#2 — Human health means whole human health, and physical activity supports both improved physical well-being and mental well-being. Healthy people create healthy communities and healthy communities are better places to live.
#3 — Individual commitment to whole human health flourishes best with the support of a broader community.
#4 — Whole human health requires an acknowledgement that we are hard-wired for connection and belonging, and that connection and belonging are essential to good health.

Our Community Collaborative
Great Plains Health provides generous and long-standing financial support to the Platte River Fitness Series. Their support allows us to provide the Points Competition and Finisher’s Challenge at no cost to participants. They lend support directly to several of our member events and help defray the costs of operating a non-profit. The North Platte Recreation Department provided administrative support for our first 20 years, giving us a firm foundation on which to grow. West Central District Health Department is now home for administration, giving the Platte River Fitness Series the full measure of all the good work of public health.
Our Series Sponsors
These business and organizations lend additional support to the day-to-day operations of our initiative so that we can continue to keep our entry fees as low as possible and our events available to all. The Platte River Fitness Series is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Its work would not be possible without public/private partnerships with our local businesses and civic organizations. For information on how you can support the mission of the PRFS with your tax-deductible contribution, contact Series director Trudy Merritt at (308) 221-6845 or platteriverfitness@gmail.
